The final version of the Camberwell Area Study is now on the Southwark website

Thank you to everyone who shared their views on the different areas, buildings and spaces in Camberwell. We received 1628 contributions from 461 respondents.

We have reviewed these consultation responses and used them to update the study. We have uploaded this updated study to the Southwark website.

You can access the study via this link: Camberwell Area Character Study - Southwark Council

We have also created an interactive map of the different character areas. This allows you to select a specific area and view or download the character area summary. You can access this via the link above, or via Southwark maps (the Map project is entitled ‘Southwark Character Areas’)

Each character area summary includes an area description, area profile, map of uses, movement and heritage, historical overview, urban & architectural character, open space, notable buildings, local artwork and site allocations. Areas that cover a town centre or high street also include further relevant analysis. We have also included a summary of the consultation responses we received. This highlights your views on the areas, buildings and spaces.

This document will serve as a resource for those who are making planning decisions in the Camberwell area. It is also intended as a resource for everyone, including anyone who may be proposing new development. This is to encourage any change in Camberwell to respond positively to the existing townscape, character and context of the area and to recognise what is valued.
